|
Berrima Correctional Centre is a minimum/medium
security correctional institution for women situated 125 km's south-west of
Sydney in the Southern Tablelands. The centre is also responsible for periodic
detention centres at Wollongong and Campbelltown.

station is Moss Vale, being 7 km's from the Correction Centre. Buses running to
Berrima run on weekdays only. During the weekend and public holidays, taxi's

Visitor Information: Visiting times are
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays between 8.30am and 3.00pm. Mondays are
co-ordinated children's visits. The only items allowed inside the visit centre
is loose change up to $20 to be used in vending machines.

Cessnock Correctional Centre
|
Cessnock Correctional Centre is a
minimum/maximum security correctional institution for men situated 151 km's
north-west of Sydney in the Hunter Valley. It is the reception prison for the
Newcastle/Hunter Valley region.

Getting There: From the train station,
an hourly bus service operates to Cessnock shopping centre which takes 45
minutes. From the shopping centre, it is either a 5 minute taxi ride, or a half
hour walk to the prison. Bus services also operate from Sydney and Newcastle.
Visitor Information: No booking required
for minimum security prisoners, however, you will need to book for maximum
security inmates. You can do that by phoning the number above. Visit times for
minimum security prisoners are Saturday and Sundays between 8.00am and 3.00pm.
Visiting hours for maximum security prisoners are 8.30am - 2.30pm and visits are
pre-booking in one (1) hour intervals. For persons visiting maximum security
prisoners, no items are allowed to be taken inside the visiting area, and
minimum security visitors are allowed to take necessary items to care for
children and babies, and up to $30 in coins to use for purchases in the prison
canteen.

|
Emu Plains is a minimum security prison for
women situated 60 km's west of Sydney's central business district.

|
Glen Innes Correctional Centre is a minimum
security prison for men situated 40 km's east of Glen Innes in the Northern

Getting There: Country Link operated a
rail and bus link. Private coaches also service Glen Innes. Transport from
Glen Innes into the prison is provided by the centre. The bus leaves from the
Glen Innes tourist information centre at 7.30am and returns to the information
centre after visits.
Visitor Information: No booking is
required. Visit times are Saturday, Sunday and most Public Holidays between
9.00am and 3.00pm (inclusive). Food may be bought into the centre. There are
BBQ's available and money may be bought in to purchase drinks from the vending
machines. The centre provides tea and coffee. You may take in necessary items
needed to care for a child or baby. Newspaper which cannot be bought at the
centre may also be bought in and given to inmates.

Long Bay Correctional Complex is a
minimum/maximum security prison for men. It is situated 14 km's from Sydney's
central business district. It comprises of five (5) institutions. Four (4) being
maximum security, and one (1) being minimum.

John Morony Correctional Centre is a
minimum/maximum security prison for men situated 5 km's south of Windsor and 60
km's north-west of Sydney. A new facility for women is currently under
construction.

every two weeks. There is no public transport from Lithgow or Bathurst at the

Mannus Correctional Complex, which comprises of
a minimum security institution for men, and a periodic detention centre for both
men and women, is situated 512 km's south of Sydney and 115 km's south-east of
Wagga Wagga.

security facility for men and is situated 128 km's north-east of Newcastle on
the outskirts of Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley. It is 242 km's north of

There is currently no transport to the centre from the station, however a taxi

Bathurst Correctional Centre is a
medium/minimum security facility for men situated 210 km's west of Sydney. The
centre serves as a reception prison for western NSW. A minimum security cell
block, known as, X Wing, is located outside the walls of the main prison.

Broken Hill Correctional Centre

Broken Hill Correctional Centre is a medium
security institution for men and women which is situated in far west New South
Wales approximately 1190 km's from Sydney. The medium security section is a
reception prison for a large area of the State bordered by Queensland in the
north, Victoria in the south and South Australia in the west. It holds a mixture
of sentenced and remand inmates.

station is situated approximately 2 km's from the centre. The service is
operated by Country Link and Great Southern Railways. Broken Hill is also

Grafton Correctional Centre

Grafton Correctional Centre is a medium/minimum
security facility for men and women situated in the centre of Grafton city,
approximately 650 km's north of Sydney. As well as housing sentenced offenders,
it also serves as a reception prison for northern NSW.

Getting There: The nearest railway
station is Grafton City station on the north coast line, approximately 5 km's
from the centre. A bus service from adjacent Bent Street leaves every thirty
(30) minutes on weekdays and hourly on Saturday until 1.00pm. The service does
not operate after 1.00pm on Saturday's, Sunday's and Public Holidays.
Alternatively, catch any bus with the destination "Hospital".
Visitor Information: For Area A,
visits need to be pre-booked. Phone the number above for more details.
Visiting times are Friday to Sunday, between 9.00am and 11.30am and again
between 1.00pm and 3.00pm. For Area B and June Baker Centre, visits do not
require bookings. Visiting hours are Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays
between 9.00am and 3.15pm. You may take small amounts of coins for vending
machines and BBQ food, or you may pre-order your lunch to be picked up from
the hospital shop which is situated directly opposite the prison.

|
Junee Correctional Centre is a medium/minimum
security prison for men located 450 km's south-west of Sydney and 40 km's from
Wagga Wagga. It is also the only privately run correctional centre in NSW.

Mulawa Correctional Centre is a
maximum/medium/minimum security facility for women located 21 km's from Sydney's
centre business district,within the boundaries of the Silverwater Complex,
Holker Street, Silverwater. The Silverwater Complex consists of Mulawa
Correctional Centre, Silverwater Correctional Centre and M.R.R.C. Mulawa is the
principal Correctional Centre for women in NSW.

for a taxi from the station to the centre is approximately $10.

3.30pm. The Children of Prisoners organisation is based at Silverwater, they
can assist in cases where there are difficulties in transporting children to
the centre, phone 02 9648 5866. A normal visit is for an hour and a half.
There is no smoking in the visit section. Hot drinks are supplied free of
charge, and you may take up to $10 in change for vending machines.

Parklea Young Offenders Correctional Centre
|
Parklea Correctional Centre is a medium
security facility for young male offenders, mainly between the ages of 18 and 25
years. The centre is located 40 km's north-west of Sydney's central business
district. The Centre also incorporates a low security work release Centre for
young inmates nearing release.

Getting There: The nearest railway
station is Blacktown and a bus operates from the station. The service runs
approximately every 45 minutes on the weekends and visitors disembark at a bus
depot situated near the visitors car park at the Correctional Centre. The
service on a week day runs every hour and passengers disembark on Sunnyholt
Road at the entrance to the Correctional Centre. During weekends visitors may
catch the bus service from the depot near the carpark and on weekdays from the
depot on Sunnyholt Road.

pre-book. You can only book Monday to Friday. Please call the number above.
Visiting times are Saturday, Sunday and Monday's between 8.30am and 3.00pm.
Visits have duration up to two (2) hours.

Tamworth Correctional Centre is a medium
institution for males located in the Northern Tablelands, 397km north of Sydney.
The institution serves as a Reception Correctional Centre for Tamworth and
surrounding districts. A periodic detention Centre for males was opened in March
1997.

station is Tamworth. A bus service (Route 430) runs from the Town Stand in
Kable Avenue (near the bridge) to the Hospital, which is directly opposite the

Tablelands, 197km south-west of Sydney. It is also home to some of Australia's
worst offenders.

security institution for males located 152km west of Sydney in the Blue

Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre

The Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre
(MRRC) is a maximum security institution for males. In conjunction with the
Silverwater and Mulawa Correctional Centres it forms part of the Silverwater
Correctional Complex, Australia's largest prison complex, located 21km west of
the Sydney central business district.

Visitor Information: All visits must
be booked. You can phone (02) 9289-5657 to organise that. Bookings can be made
up to seven (7) days ahead. Visiting times are Monday to Sunday (excluding
Tuesdays) between 8.45am and 10.30am - 9.30am and 11.30am - 10.30am and
12.30pm - 12.45pm and 2.45pm - 1.30pm and 3.30pm - 4.00pm and 6.30om. Up
to $10 in change is permitted for use in vending machines. A $2 coin is needed
for lockers, which is returned at the end of each visit. Please phone to
centre beforehand to check on other applicable rules, including the quantity
of baby items permitted to be taken inside the prison.
