Phonthong Prison [Laos] Update 2 August 2006 -
Sam Neawon JR
FPSS has been advised by the brother of Sam Neawon Jr that he was released from Phonthong prison today [2/08/06]. Sam is presently at the Laos Immigration awaiting his visa to leave the country. We are grateful that Sam will soon be reunited with his family. What a joyus occassion this is. Sam's older brother sends his appreciation to those who continued to send Sam love and support. The long journey for freedom is almost over and we must thank the Laos Authorities for providing Sam's release. We wish Sam all the very best for his future and hope that his journey forward will be in peace.

He was arrested in 2002 with 1.5 kilograms of heroin.
Abubakari reportedly confessed that he was hired by a man in the Thai capital, Bangkok to carry the drugs to Vientiane.
He received a plane ticket and 1,000 US dollars.
