In addition to Phonthong prison, Laos has many more terrible places
in which they keep people. From the Mountain Cave prisons of Sam Neau,
to the dark rooms of Phontan the only rights you have, are the rights to die!
There are 38 major prisons currently in Burma.
Over 20 house political prisoners. At least 1500 Political Prisoners
[that we know of] are currently incarcerated in Burmese Prisons. Many of these are women.
At present there are two Australians, two Britons and 12 Kuwaitis
among the many others who are being held in
the legal limbo no-mans-land of Guantanimo Bay Prison Camp.
Drapchi Prison is the
largest prisons in Tibet (Lhasa City) which holds prisoners sentenced through
the judicial system that technically involves investigation, arrest, procuratorial
investigation and court verdict. Regarded as
a major centre of torture and ill treatment, countless prisoners have lost their lives at
the hands of official maltreatment.
Prisoners are detained in solitary confinement for months, forced to sit
'Buddha'style on the side of their beds all day. Beaten, starved and
forgotten by many... the nightmare has begun and only the strongest will
survive... if they're lucky!
