The Spirit to Survive!
On 23 December 2000, in defiance of all international laws, Kay Danes' husband, is abducted from his office by the Lao Secret Police and taken to an undisclosed location in the capital - Vientiane.
Not knowing the fate of her husband, Kay gathers their two youngest children and makes her way across the border to Thailand. Their journey however, is cut short as she and her children are encircled by menacing secret police wielding guns. Forced headlong into a nightmare of epic proportions, Kay is wrenched from her children [who are later secretly evacuated by the Australian Embassy] and sent to Phonthong Prison, where the real nightmare begins.
Strengthened by the courage of her husband Kerry, who is tortured only meters away, Kay struggles for life in a place where human rights are practically non-existent. A place where few can help you, no-one can hear you, you're all alone and at the mercy of a Communist regime out of control. "Kay writes from the heart, and her experience of life as a prisoner in Laos makes compelling reading. " Margaret Reynolds - National President United Nations of Australia

Many thanks for making yourself available to talk to our staff about some of your unforgettable experiences and of the work that you are now dedicated to for the benefit of all people, particularly those in unfortunate circumstances of oppression and fear. We wish you well and in our own efforts to help the poor in our neighbourhood, we feel a certain amount of empathy and concern. Hopefully those in need, be it political, material even spiritual, will feel the helping hand of good people. May your work be a constant challenge as well as a source of great satisfaction.
