Article 1. We assume a position of trust together with ethical
obligations. Those we represent and those with whom we associate with, can
expect a wholehearted and scrupulous commitment to the highest standards of
ethical behavior and professionalism.
Article 2. We seek at all times to act honestly and responsibly and
promote ethical practices; to use good judgment and common sense and at all
times, contribute to the good reputation of those we associate with, to
uphold our objectives.
Article 3. We strive to increase our professional knowledge and skills
and to apply them appropriately in practice.
Article 4. We respect the sovereign equality of States, the
maintenance of international peace and security, and the promotion of
friendly diplomatic relations. We seek at all times to be culturally
sensitive to other communities and their local customs.
Article 5. We do not engage in behavior at any time which is likely to
adversely affect our reputation, our ability to perform our duties with
diplomacy, or the ability to achieve our objectives. We seek to handle
confrontation with tact.
Article 6. We have a duty to contribute to the effective functioning
of the services we provide by treating others with respect. This principle
is central to maintaining good relations, and is important to effective
performance and quality standards.
Article 7. We do not discriminate against, or harass such persons or
any other person because of their sex, marital status, ethnicity, age,
sexual orientation, disability or religious beliefs, or upon any similar
ground; and respect the privacy of individuals when dealing with personal
information.
Article 8. We uphold the purposes and principles proclaimed in the
Charter of the United Nations, in recognition of the equal and inalienable
rights of all members of the human family being the foundation of freedom,
justice and peace in the world.
Article 9. Should our advocates fail to comply with these Code of
Ethics, then we will require them to show immediate cause in order to
remain an active member of our organization.
Article 10. We reserve the right to disassociate with any individual,
or organization at our own discretion and without notice, and will issue
notification of this in our general announcements. As a public service,
we have a duty of care to inform our members, clients and official
agencies of any significant changes in advocates and volunteers.
Article 11. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without
any notice, to change, modify, add, or remove any article of the Code of
Ethics as may be required. Changes in these articles will be effective when
the revised Code of Ethics are posted.
