SENTENCE:
|
On July 19, 2002 I was sentenced to death for charges relating to trafficking amphetamine tablets. This occurred at the first court and the second court upheld the decision. My partners too were also sentenced to death.
On April 2008, in the third and final court, we won our appeal and were charged with possession of 9000 tablets to which we received a 30 year sentence. One of my case partners passed away on death row about three years after our sentencing. I remained on death row for almost six years until that day when they commuted my sentence. If I survive this prison to see my freedom, which is not likely, then I will be about sixty years old on that day.
I have no family to help me because they are in Burma and are very poor. I try to work as hard as I can in the prison so that I can buy a little food for myself. I fold plastic bags in the factory of the prison. I don't have any visitors except for the occasional visit from some missionaries who pity me. I would like to stay strong in my health for as long as possible. I don't wish to die like so many of my countrymen do because they lack the financial and emotional resources to sustain them. I pray everyday that someone will take pity on me and forgive me of my mistakes. I am genuinely in need of support and friendship. God bless the person who reads this letter and takes a little bit of their time to write to me.
Most sincerely,
Kyaw Kyaw Khine

LETTER WRITING:
|
I really would love to get letters and I will do my very best to reply. The cost of stamps is a luxury to people like me but sometimes I am able to get help from the other foreigners if I work hard. So please if you have time, please write to me. Please write to me if you have free time.

EMBASSY CONTACT:

Most foreign prisoners maintain a small bank account to purchase food, cooking supplies, writing materials, clothes etc. from the prison store . While the prison does supply a minimal diet, many prisoners prefer to supplement their diet with store purchases and gifts from friends and visitors [those who have them]. Without support for food and money, the prisoner is in a really difficult position.
Word of advice: Never send money or cash in the mail. All mail must first be checked by the guards and THEN given to the prisoner. It is against the law to send money through the mail and if found, it will be confiscated by police and/or prison authorities.
THE BEST WAY TO SUPPORT ME
You can send money to me via Father Olivier Morin. The 69-year-old French missionary, Jesuit Father Olivier Morin, heads a six-member team that regularly visits more than 1,600 foreign prisoners in eight prisons in and outside Bangkok, including a women's prison.
Make sure when you send funds via Father Olivier that you state that your funds are for Mr. Kyaw Kyaw Khine, Bangkwang Bldg #6. Father Olivier has his own reference number for each prisoner he visits.
My reference number is '110 BKW- 6'.
You need to include this in your letter otherwise he won't know who the funds are for. You can also use this to send me items of clothing etc…
